OCTOBER – Breast Cancer Awareness Month

A whole month dedicated to talk about this delicate subject. The Pink October movement began in the United States. Shortly afterwards Brazil also supported the cause, illuminating some public monuments with the color of the campaign of Breast Cancer prevention.

FEEDING

Eating fresh food and consuming less red meat, salt and processed carbohydrates can reduce cancer risks by up to 20%. In addition, daily consumption of 10 grams of fiber reduces the risk by 7%.

MAMMOGRAPHY

Mammography helps save lives! It is estimated that with the examination it is possible to avoid more than 1100 deaths per 100 women between 50 and 74 years.

SELF-EXAM

Self-examination can help you find nodules early. However, you have do it monthly to be able to notice any changes in the breast. At any sign of alteration, look for a mastologist (breast specialist).

Self-examination should be done once every month, the week following the end of menstruation.

How to do self-examination:

In the shower or lying down: place your right hand behind your head. Slide the index, middle, and ring fingers of the left hand gently in circular motions across the entire right breast. Repeat the movement using the direct hand to examine the left breast.

In front of the mirror: inspect your breasts with your arms down along your body. Raise your arms, placing your hands on your head. Observe if there is any change in the breast contour or nipple. Repeat the observation by placing your hands on the waist and tightening it. Note if there is any change. Finally, squeeze the nipple gently and look for any secretions.

BAD HABITS

Breast cancer cases are 24% higher in smokers and 13% in former smokers. Consumption of two to five doses of alcohol per day increases by up to 1.5 times the risk of cancer.

VITAMINS

The risk of developing breast cancer decreases with high vitamin D absorption. In addition to exposure to the sun, it can be absorbed by ingestion of salmon and tuna.

EXERCISES

Walking weekly, from 1:30 to 2:30 hours reduces the risk of breast cancer by up to 18%.
